3.1.2 Type II. Shall be plunger type with a securely held replacement rubber tip which will not fold under or dislodge from lateral pressure. The holder shall be designed for attachment by surface screws. The plunger type holder shall be designed so that the plunger is held firm when pushed down by foot and released by tripping a spring action trigger.

3.2 Sizes.

3.2.1 Type I. Size for type I holders designates the floor to door clearance. Size 1 shall be designed for 2-1/2 inch (63.5 mm) or less clearance. Size 2 shall be designed for 3-1/2 (88.9 mm) inch or less clearance.

3.2.2 Type II. Size for type II holders designates the floor to door clearance. Size 1 shall have a 7/8 inch (22.2 mm) throw. Size 2 shall have a 1-1/8 inch (28.6 mm) throw.

3.3 Material. The door holders shall be made of brass, bronze, cast iron, or aluminum, as specified (see 6.1)

3.4 Finish. Unless otherwise specified, significant surfaces of the hinge shall be finished in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.16 and A156.18, finish code as specified  (see 6.1).

3.5 Grade. Door holders supplied under this commercial item description shall be grade1, 2, or 3, as specified (see 6.1). Grade designates durability with grade 1 being the most durable (see ANSI/BHMA A156.16).

3.6 Product identification code. Door holders supplied under this commercial item description shall be identified by an identifying number in accordance with section 7 of ANSI/BHMA A156.16.

3.7 Workmanship. Doors holders shall be free from sharp edges and shall be free of defects which may impair appearance or serviceability.

3.8 Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.

3.9 Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, provided they fall within the tolerances specified using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of FED-STD-376, and all other requirements of this commercial item description are met.
