6.4 Historical design. Historically, the following materials have proven satisfactory for the construction of the muffler clamps:

Muffler component	Material
U-bolt	Carbon steel in accordance with ASTM A575, C1010-C1025 de-scaled or ASTM A108, cold finished, C1010-C1025
Saddle	Low carbon sheet or strip steel in accordance with ASTM A1008/A1008M
Hexagon nuts	Grade A steel
Lockwashers	Carbon Steel

6.5 Cross reference data. Clamps conforming to this document are interchangeable-substitutable with clamps conforming to MS52150. The CID dash numbers and the MS dash numbers are the same, expect that the duty and style notations have been removed. The duty is now represented by the dash number (-1 through -23 are standard duty, -24 through -41 are heavy duty), and the clamp style is up to the discretion of the manufacturer.
