3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Design. Furniture glides shall be the nail-in type consisting of a steel base which is mounted by a rubber or plastic cushion and uses a nail stem not less than 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) long for attachment to the furniture leg. The base shall have a minimum thickness of 0.040 inch (1.0 mm). The materials used shall not chemically react with or produce color migration to floor surfaces. The base steel shall be of such strength and temper that it will not deform or fracture during normal use.
3.2 Size. Specified size defines the base diameter. The tolerance for the stated base diameter shall be + 1/16 inch (1.6 mm).
3.3 Finish. The base steel shall have an oxidized copper finish, nickel plated or chromium plated as specified.
3.4 Workmanship. The furniture glide bases shall be free from sharp edges, cracks, and burrs. The rubber, plastic or elastomer cushion material shall be free from cracks or splits. Coating on the base steel shall cover all exposed areas except the edges and
