COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
HINGE, BUTT
(SPRING)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification FF-H-116, in part.
This commercial item description covers commercial and industrial quality screen door spring hinges with fully enclosed torsion springs.
Salient characteristics:
Design - The requirements, unless otherwise specified, shall be in accordance with BHMA 1101. The minimum flange thickness shall be in accordance with current manufacturing practices. Hinge size shall be determined by procurement requirements and shall be as specified.
Performance - Tests to assure quality conformance shall be performed in accordance with BHMA 1101.
Material - The hinge shall be constructed of materials one through nine listed in BHMA 1101 as specified.
Finish - The significant surface shall be finished in accordance with BHMA 1301 as specified or by specific requirements. The finish shall be tested in accordance with ANSI 156.1, when specified.
Adjustment - The power and speed of operation shall be adjustable by a spring tension feature.
Pin - When specified hinge pin shall be reversible, riveted, spun or non-removable. The pin shall be lubricated with non-fluid grease or coatings.
Fasteners - All mounting hardware required for attachment shall be included with the hinges. Furnished hardware shall be of suitable size and type, and shall be compatible with the material and finish of the hinge.
Barrel - Integral barrel and leaf construction shall be at manufacturer’s option.
Marking - The hinge shall be permanently identified by the manufacturer’s name or trademark.
Workmanship - The hinge shall be free from imperfections which may impair durability or serviceability.
The issue of BHMA 1101, BHMA 1103, and ANSI A156.1 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this commercial item description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawing, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial market. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered Materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The items shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Shipping containers shall be marked as specified in the contract or order.
