COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BOLT, BARREL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification FF-H-111C.
Salient characteristics:
1. Shall consist of a sliding bolt, mounted in a backplate, with a separate for use as a receptacle.
2. Shall be of the following types and lengths, as specified.
Type I- Lightweight
Lengths of bolt: 2-1/2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 inches.
Type II- Heavyweight
Lengths of bolt: 4, 6, and 8 inches
3. Shall be of wrought steel: finish US2C, US4, US1B in accordance with BHMA Product Standard No. 1301- Section M.
4. Screw size as recommended by manufactures.
5. Type I and Type II bolts shall withstand 2 impacts of 25 ft-lbf each and Type II bolts shall, in addition, withstand 2 impacts of 44 ft-lbf each when tested in accordance with Section 21 of ANSI/ASTM F476.
Workmanship. Barrel bolt shall be free of sharp edges and be free of any defects which may affect appearance and serviceability.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The packaging and packing shall be in accordance with normal commercial practice and shall assure acceptable by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
