COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
HINGE, BUTT
(GENERAL PURPOSE)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification FF-H-116, in part.
This commercial item description covers commercial and industrial quality butt hinges suitable for use on wood and hollow core metal doors.
Salient characteristics:
Design - Template and non-template hinges shall be in accordance with ANSI A156.1, ANSI A156.7.
Material - Hinges shall be constructed of materials one through nine BHMA 1301 as specified.
Finishes - The surface of the hinges shall be finished as specified in BHMA 1301 or as required.
Pins - The hinge pins shall be non-rising, removable as specified. The surface of the pin shall be lubricated with a non-fluid grease or coating. The material shall be steel, stainless steel or brass as specified.
Paint preparation - Surfaces prepared for painting shall be phosphatized and primed.
Fasteners - All mounting hardware required for attachment shall be included with the hinges, the hardware shall be of suitable size and type and shall be compatible with the material and finish of the hinge.
Workmanship. - The hinge shall be free from imperfections which may impair durability or serviceability.
The issue of ANSI A156.1, ANSI A156.7, and BHMA 1301 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this commercial item description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawing, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial market. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered Materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The items shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Shipping containers shall be marked as specified in the contract or order.
