COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
HANGER, PIPE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification WW-H-171E.
This commercial item description covers pipe hangers, brackets, saddles, clamps, and pipe-rolls, for all types of piping systems.
Salient characteristics:
Shall conform to the requirements of MSS SP-58, SP-69 and SP-90 except that, in accordance with MSS SP-69, hangers and supports for fire protection systems shall conform to NFPA Nos. 11 through 17 as applicable.
Shall be one of the types defined by MSS SP-58, and SP-69 or NFPA Nos. 11 through 17, as specified.
Workmanship. Pipe hangers and supports shall be free from defects which affect use and serviceability.
The issues of MSS SP-58, SP-69, and SP-90, and NFPA Nos. 11 through 17 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with stated requirements.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The item shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.

NFPA Nos. 11 through 17 are available from the National Fire Protection Association, 470 Atlantic Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts 02210.
