This commercial item description covers crimp type anti-pilferage seals for use in sealing bags and equipment.
Salient characteristics:
1. Anti-pilferage seals shall be of the following types, as specified:
Type I- Circular
Type II- Square
2. Shall be crimp type lead seals consisting of a lead locking slot and some type of cord or wire which, when locked, form loops through a shackle or grommets to prevent unauthorized opening of the locked container.
3. Type I seals shall have lead locking slots with two holes, supplied with 4-ply galvanized steel wire.
4. The body of the type I seal shall be not less than 1/2-inch diameter and not less than 3/16-inch wide; wire shall be not less than 8-3/4 inches long.
5. Type II seals shall be of the threaded type construction with 4 holes, supplied with cord having a breaking strength of not less than 118 pounds when assembled in the steel.
6. The body of the type II seal shall be not less than 5/8-inch by 3/16-inch wide; cord shall be no less than 20 inches in length with the ends of the cords stiffened with wax for not less than 2 inches.
7. Holes in type II seals shall be not less than 3/32-inch in diameter lengthwise completely through the seal.
Workmanship. Seals shall be constructed so as to assure proper functioning of all parts of the seal.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this commercial item description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing and marking. The packaging and packing shall be in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
