COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ROD END, THREADED-LINKAGE, RIGID
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description (CID) for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE. This CID covers rigid rod end clevises. The items are intended to be attached to a shaft or rod by pinning to provide a means of fastening or attaching the shaft or rod to another part.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
2.1 Materials. The material shall be carbon steel, Unified Numbering System (UNS) G10150 through G10290. These steels shall have a minimum ultimate tensile strength of 55,000 pounds per square inch (psi). The use of recovered materials is acceptable providing that all requirements of this CID are met (see note 5.5).
2.2 Design and construction. The design and construction of rod ends shall be in accordance with figure 1.
2.3 Protective finish. When specified (see 5.2), protective finish shall be zinc coating in accordance with ASTM A123 or ASTM B633-85, type II, class SC3.
2.4 Identification marking. Identification and markings shall be permanent and legible and shall consist of the part identification number (PIN) and the manufacturer’s identification (see 5.2 and 5.3).
3. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS.
3.1 Responsibility for inspection. The contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspections (examinations and tests).
